Fifteenth George Rudé Seminar in French History and Civilisation

The University of Adelaide is pleased to announce that the Fifteenth George Rudé Seminar in French History and Civilisation will be held in Adelaide, Australia, from 12 to 15 July 2006. The biennial Rudé Seminar continues a French history tradition that distinguished George Rudé's tenure in Australia. The organizing theme of the Seminar for 2006 will be "French Identities," but we welcome papers on all aspects of French history. The Seminar will be held in conjunction with the 14th Annual International Conference of the Australian Society for French Studies (11-13 July 2006), whose theme for 2006 will be "Utopias/Dystopias." The Rudé Seminar welcomes individual papers, which the organisers will arrange in sessions of two or three papers. Should you prefer to organise a panel, please let us know.

We hope that historians of France from abroad will take this opportunity to visit us and to see Australia. Adelaide, a beautiful city of just over a million people, has a great deal to offer its visitors, including fine galleries, cafés, restaurants, and museums. Located near South Australia's justly-famous wine regions (the Barossa Valley, the Clare Valley, and McLaren Vale), Adelaide is an ideal place from which to explore South Australia in all its variety.

28 February 2006: Last date for submission of proposals for panels and papers;
31 March 2006: Last date for early registration (with discount);
30 June 2006: Last date for pre-registration
