My program in Environmental Studies (now Bachelor of Environmental Policy and Management) at the University of Adelaide has fast-tracked me into an exciting career in environmental policy and management. On completion of my degree I was fortunate enough to move into a career directly related to my studies: community based natural resource management. Before I knew it, I had an annual budget of $500,000, two staff, and was engaging numerous consultants and contractors! I’ve recently moved to Sydney where I work as the Environmental Management System Officer for Waverley Council.

My job is to manage the environmental impacts of Council’s activities and to ensure the continual improvement of environmental performance for both council and non-council activities occurring within the Local Government area. I have been able to excel in these positions because of my degree in environmental studies. By studying a broad range of environmental topics and issues and developing my research, investigative and management skills, my degree gave me a great foundation to move into an exciting and important industry.
