I decided to combine media and international studies because of growing media and international relations concerns throughout the world. The two programs complemented my career aspirations and current employment opportunities.

The programs allowed me to develop my community awareness and opened my eyes to the larger concerns facing the world today. These lessons have been put into practice throughout my career in the Royal Australian Air Force.

University can be a stressful time, but support from the University of Adelaide provided me with the flexibility to follow my career aspirations within the Royal Australian Air Force and maintain my full-time study commitments.

I have served in the Royal Australian Air Force since 2001 and I have studied full-time throughout this period. This was made possible by the University of Adelaide recognising the diversity of student needs, as well as support from the Australian Defence Force for me to gain a tertiary education. The university staff were also very understanding and allowed me to challenge myself by completing the two programs within three years total.

My studies at the University of Adelaide have assisted me in developing my leadership skills and enhanced my determination and confidence to succeed. The skills and theories learnt have ensured the continued development in my chosen career.

My advice to new students is: be enthusiastic to a new type of learning and to open your mind to alternative views. Think about the bigger picture and do not isolate your studies to what is happening in your own lives. Grasp every challenge you are faced with and take the initiative to try something new. And most importantly – enjoy your studies at the University of Adelaide. Good luck.
