Mentoring Scheme

HumSS Chums

Who is it for? First-year students studying in International Studies and Development Studies.

When is it happening? Semester 1, 2009.

Why become a HumSS Chum? Mentors help new students who want to learn about University life by answering questions, giving personal tips from their own experiences, providing advice on settling into study and campus life, and introducing you to other new students in your courses.

Benefits of the Mentoring Scheme

As a HumSS Chum, during the first semester you will have the opportunity to:

  • network with other students
  • learn about university life
  • get assistance with enrolling
  • find out more about Orientation Week and the UniStep program
  • attend social events (with food!).

In addition, you will get information and advice on:

  • your program (International Studies or Development Studies)
  • support services offered throughout the University of Adelaide.

Applying to be a HumSS Chum

The scheme can only accommodate up to 150 'mentees' (persons being mentored) and applicants will be accepted on a 'first come, first served' basis. So to secure your place please fill out and submit the HumSS Chums online registration form by 6 February 2009 – you will be notified of your acceptance.

We look forward to helping make your studies in our Faculty enjoyable and rewarding – see you in February!
