Program Structures

As a result of a University wide decision to introduce 3 unit courses at every level from 2009, our degree structures changed.

If you are a new student, or if you began your degree after 2008, you will follow the new structure. You will need to become familiar with the structure of your undergraduate degree.

If you began your degree before 2008, you will complete your degree under a transition arrangement. We have provided copies of our pre-2008 degree templates on our programs page so you can work out where you are up to in completing your program. Please come and visit us in the Faculty Office, or email Vicki Johnson, if you would like us to complete a degree plan for you that will clarify what you need to do to finish your degree.

Some of the reasons for the restructure are as follows:

  • we wanted to address student requests for a more focused curriculum with opportunities to specialise in issues facing the 21st century.
  • with similar course structures and unit values across the university, you are able to enrol in a far wider range of courses offered by other faculties, especially if you are completing a double or combined degree. This gives a whole new flexibility to your studies.
  • we sought to refresh the content of our degree programs to give you a cutting edge education.
  • we wanted to maximise the opportunity to build upon the recognised research strengths of our highly qualified staff.
  • we understood the importance of increasing the core content of our named degree programs.
  • the quality of your student experience matters.
